What Is a Breast Lift Procedure?
A breast lift, which is also referred to as mastopexy, is a procedure which is designed to give the breasts a firmer, more youthful and uplifted appearance. Women can elect to have the surgery done with or without breast augmentation or the addition of implants.
How Is a Breast Lift Performed?
General anesthesia is typically administered before a breast lift procedure. The doctor makes a circumferential incision around the areola and then a vertical cut from the areola down to the breast fold, if indicated. The areola is then repositioned, and excess skin is removed before the incisions are sutured.
If augmentation is also performed simultaneously, then no additional incisions are required. Sutures used to close the incisions are absorbable; therefore, it’s not necessary to remove them at a later date. A drain, which is generally removed after a couple of days, may also be inserted beneath the skin for fluid collection. After the surgery, the patient will typically spend a couple of hours in recovery.
Am I a Good Candidate for a Breast Lift?
You are a good candidate for breast lift surgery if you are in good health and do not plan on having any more children. While a breast lift can be performed on a woman of any age, a mammogram is recommended for women who are 35 or older. As long as you are in good health and have realistic expectations, you’ll generally be considered a good fit for breast lift surgery.
What Is Involved in the Healing Process?
After the surgery, you’ll spend about a couple of hours in recovery. A pain reliever will be prescribed to reduce any discomfort. You’ll also be outfitted with a supportive bra after the surgery.
Patients can resume most normal activities after a week’s time and typically experience full recovery after about a month. If a breast augmentation is performed, then the total healing process takes about eight weeks. While you are recuperating, you should avoid any exercise or movements that involve using the muscles in your chest.
What Are the Typical Results of a Breast Lift?
Breast lifts restore the firmness, uplift, and shape of sagging breasts, with the results being immediate. However, during the healing process, there will be some settling of the breast tissue. Therefore, the final results should be apparent after about 90 days. If you follow a healthy eating plan and maintain your weight, a breast lift will provide you with satisfying, long-lasting results.
When you set up a consultation, all details about the surgery as well as the expenses will be covered at that time. As each patient’s needs are different, surgical costs can vary as well.
